Michael Edward Trayford, age 65, of Overland Park, KS passed away peacefully surrounded by family on August 27, 2023 at 7:09pm. He was preceded in death by his parents Ron and Lois Trayford. He is survived by sister Michelle Meyer, brother Marvin Trayford (Cheryl), and sister Melinda Trayford, as well as niece Allison Manz (Mitch), niece Lauren Meyer, nephew Grant Meyer (Kathryn), nephew Blake Meyer, and great-nephew and great-niece Lane and Grace Manz. Mike had a special place in his heart for each family member. He loved spending time with family and gave thoughtful gifts. He enjoyed going on fun outings with his great nephew and great niece as well.
Mike was born in Kansas City, MO on October 22, 1957. He graduated from Shawnee Mission West High School, where he was a star athlete and especially talented at baseball. Many summers were spent at the baseball diamond watching him both pitch and catch. He also participated in boy scouting and achieved the rank of Eagle Scout. Mike worked many years as a specialized heavy equipment operator and took great pride in the work he did. He enjoyed taking his young nephews on rides on the heavy equipment.
Mike had many gifts and talents and was a larger-than-life personality. He had a booming voice and a strong hand shake. He also had a great sense of humor and succeeded in making people laugh. Having great interpersonal skills, Mike had a gift in making people feel cared for and was known to always celebrate the other person's successes. Mike could be described as tenacious. He overcame many obstacles in life and always remained a positive person through it all. He looked forward to being reunited with his parents in Eternity.
Family and friends are invited to a visitation at 10am followed by a funeral service at 10:45am on September 5, 2023 at the Apostolic Christian Church of Kansas City located at 301 W. Blue Ridge Boulevard in Kansas City, MO 64145. Mike will be greatly missed by all who were blessed to know him.
